SAFe® Leadership Transformation Mastery U.lab 2x | Leading from the emerging future | 3D System Mapping Co-Sensing Experience Report

We are part of a collective system that is complex and interdependent. U.lab 2x is a four-month ecosystem transformation accelerator that helps move prototype ideas toward ecosystem impact.

Our System is a Forbes Global 2000 Organisation moving from an output efficiency centric to an outcome customer-centric operating system building SAFe Leadership Transformation Mastery.

Our core team is part of the Presencing Institute (PI) U.Lab initiative, where 10.000+ Transformation Experts worldwide collectively work on a better tomorrow. The PI grows out of the MIT Center for Organizational Learning. Ultimately, the Lab aims to activate and amplify a locally anchored, globally connected network of thousands of cross-sector change initiatives working to build new economic infrastructures that generate well-being for all.

Our U.Lab 2x SAFe Leadership transformation Mastery core team, Laura, Lalita, and Malte, set out on the journey to understand the current System and discover the emerging future System to help Leadership master the grammar of transformative co-creation while faced with profound disruption. (See Figure 1)

We set out to address the leadership blindspot and sense the highest future potential to move from ego to an ecosystem contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 17, mastering the grammar of transformative co-creation. Leadership is given the language and technology appreciate the inter-relationship of the system elements (e.g., Leadership, employee, and customers) as part of the whole ecosystem they belong to for better results.

We do this to support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 17: "strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development".

Our times require more substantial attention to the leadership inner development goals transformation to radically improve operations, organizational culture, and ecosystem relations to get business results sustainability.

Our journey is blessed by volunteers such as organizational Transformation and Lean-Agile Thought Leaders and Experts, PSTs, SPCTs, AKTs and SAFe Fellows who voluntarily joined along the way. This journey helps participants build and deepen relationships across stakeholder systems and co-evolve new prototype initiatives that aim to address the root causes of challenges that matter.

SAFe® Leadership Transformation Mastery 3D System Mapping Experience Report

3D Mapping is a tool that allows us to work in three dimensions and multiple perspectives to see and understand the elements of the System as part of the Co-Sensing phase. During this modelling process, distinguished people from Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America mapped their (1) current reality, (2) jointly reflected from four different perspectives, and (3) mapped our emerging future with actions for our future possibility. (Figure2)

We generated the following insights

·         Understanding the deeper forces at play in social systems that can either be obstacles or leverage points for change;

·         Identifying emerging future possibilities;

·         Prototyping new ways of working together in multi-stakeholder settings."

What a powerful combination!

What has shifted after the 3D Systems Mapping Workshop?

·         We experienced a unique open mind, open heart and will space. The vulnerability and connection to oneself brought forth profound psychological safety for people who met themselves for the first time

·         The realization that the emerging future has potentially a lot to do with the reward systems (e.g. tied to long-term business value) in the operating System

·         Burnout, toxic cultures and marginalized employees and families have a strong presence in our current ecosystem.

·         International institutions or governments are currently not integrated and of insignificant influence.

·         The current orthodox reward systems are essentially built upon flawed assumptions of control and predictability in an uncontrollable unpredictable, complex world

·         The need to help people in a position of power to shift their perspectives to adjust reward Systems to create results we collectively want

·         That the discipline around complex adaptive processes of relating in combination with awareness-based transformation approaches as one school of the thought offers potential

·         That the mechanics of capital markets are a crucial element, and initiatives such as ESG (environmental, social, and (corporate) governance) offer a means to shift

·         It takes just three people can start a movement of collective action for sensing the highest future possibilities to connect to a larger global social body collectively

·         The importance of building real transparency in Leadership and institutions is part of the System and not only use this word as nice o have.

·         The changes require the second tier value systems and worldviews that emerge from the interaction of "life conditions" and the mind's capacities based on Don Edward Beck and Christopher Cowan's work origination from the emergent cyclical concepts of Prof. Dr. Clare W. Graves

What is next? 4D Systems Workshop

The 3D Systems mapping workshop is followed by the 4D system workshop. The 4D Workshop is the transition from looking at the System from the outside to exploring what it looks and feels like from within. This is the critical moment where presencing happens as the architecture of connection. ( Figure 3) This will surface more profound leverage points for change and prototyping possibilities.

The 4D Workshop allows to  generate:

1.       A new shared perspective and language for moving from current reality to an emerging future reality.

2.       A further revised set of driving forces that shape the System you are collectively trying to change, along with core questions and insights into opportunities related to them.

Prototyping ideas that you can explore together in the weeks ahead.
